All of us face temptation…some days are worse than others.

The sources of temptation are many. It could be something we see on the tube, a reaction to a reaction or the image of an old situation that arises in our thoughts. Temptation can also disguise itself as doubt, discouragement and disbelief.  The primary focus of temptation is to take our eyes off of God and onto self.

In fact, if you know the right thing to do and don’t do it, that, for you, is evil. James 4:17

No matter temptations source, our hearts can feed it until fruit is born as sin. But the temptation to sin is not our master. Our selfish thoughts no longer control our actions. Faith is the antidote to temptation. Resistance is it’s antithesis.

Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.  Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. Romans 6:12-14

Second by second…thought by thought…resistance lives and leaves no room for the roots of temptation.

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7

We can seem powerless to the temptations we face each day but resistance builds in strength when it stands. It is a spiritual force that is fueled by God’s grace.

We step alone but we never stand alone. Journey teaching

Faith is our decision. We decide to step onto it’s path. No one steps with us. No one can step for us. But once we step alone, we never stand alone. To our left and right are others who resist.

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. 1 Corinthians 10:13

The way out of my struggle against temptation is clear. Temptation dies where resistance lives. And in the grace fueled boldness of resistance is my victory.

Today is the day of my resistance…
